A place of amazing journeys. Discover how our nations relationship with the sea has shaped the New Zealand identity; from stories of the Polynesian peoples epic migration to Aotearoa, early European exploration then settlement, to modern-day yachting success.
Be a part of a history that began in 1914 with the original opening of the Tepid Baths. Back then the pools were filled with sea water used to cool the machinery at the Auckland Electric Tramways powerhouse. The heated water was then pumped to the Tepid Baths. Today the baths are gas heated to 27°C and are filled with fresh water.

However, it does not have direct connection to the foreshore anymore, as the Western Reclamation and the Viaduct Basin quarter lie between it and the Waitemata Harbour.
